Conclusion of 17th training seminar for university students with the participation of Judge Ashraf al-Baroudi, Sinai activist Musaad Abu Fagr, writer Khaled al-Khemeisi, and art critic Tareq al-Shennawi | 05/08/2010

Yesterday, August 4, the 17th student seminar on human rights concluded with an open debate on democracy and human rights in Egypt, featuring Bahey eldin Hassan, the director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies; Judge Ashraf al-Baroudi, the president of the Court of Appeals; and Sinai activist Musaad Abu Fagr, recently released from detention. Thirty participants, chosen from over 150 applicants, took part in the seminar where they learned about current human rights issues on the international, regional, and local levels. Most of the participants were Egyptian university students. » more

The Regional Human Rights Monitoring workshop which was held in Cairo from May 29-31 2008 concluded the "Youth for Human Rights" program, which is the first distance learning program in Arabic aiming at training young Arab human rights defenders on advocacy and monitoring. The second training workshop on “International and Regional Mechanisms for Human Rights” has been held at the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) for 8 days from the 28th of March to the 4th of April 2008. The training workshop involved a total of 20 lawyers, NGO activists and human rights defenders from Egypt, with the participation of a Yemeni human rights activist. The proceedings of the First Training Course held 20-26th of February was organized by the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies )CIHRS(. The topic was "Capacity Building in the Sphere of Using International and Regional Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights". The concluding day was dedicated to a review of the results of the course, through diverse presentations by participants. This was done to test the skills the participants acquired during the training on the use of international mechanisms for the protection of human rights, either in verbal interventions, filing complaints or drafting shadow reports. » more

The Fourteenth Annual Human Rights Summer School (14th August- 3rd September 2007) | 01/10/2007

The fourteenth Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies annual summer school brought together 42 participants eager to learn about and understand the current Human Rights issues as they stand internationally, regionally and locally. The participants were comprised mainly of undergraduate Egyptian college students with a few graduate and foreign students. They were chosen from 250 applicants who had heard of the school through the Employment Fair at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, announcements at Non-governmental organizations, and from previous participants. » more
